Why do people follow others or so called leaders

What is it that compels a human being to follow another human being , apart from authority? If you don’t have power over me, what is it that makes me follow you? What makes you behave the way you do? If you can truthfully answer these questions, maybe this will help with discovering your True Self.

A lot of people never give themselves an opportunity to ask and answer these difficult questions. It is not every one who can face themselves and be truthful about themselves. A lot of people just follow and imitate others, following is easy, anybody can do it.

Being a leader is not easy, it is hard, it means taking responsibility for your actions and not blaming. A leader carves new paths where there was previously none. True leaders always come up with new ways of doing things. They see opportunities where others see none. Leaders see problems as opportunities and not stumbling blocks. They are proactive and cause effects. Leaders see the bigger picture and are always excited by new uncharted terrains. The unknown stimulates excitement and inquisitiveness in them. They are not afraid of failure, to them failure is just feedback to say try another way.

Followers are not original, always waiting for someone to come up with a new thing, they are basically non-starters. A basic example would be dancing. People are afraid to dance and move the way the music feels and resonates in their body. They dance according to a certain popular style so that they can be accepted and seen to be cool. This does not discount the fact that some of these popular dance moves are great.

Clearly there is a need to belong and to fit in. There seems to be a sense of fear behind all this. Who wants to risk being the odd one? Followers are reactive, something has to happen before they can act. They live on the effect side of the law, things happen to them, they blame and never take responsibility for their actions. A lot of people would rather be copycats than risk taking the road less traveled. That is why I say, it is safe to follow, you just follow the road travelled by many, parents, family, culture, society, religion etc. You do not have to ask any questions, to do that would be to risk ostracisation.

True leaders never use force, they show you their vision and the reason behind their vision. They empower you to see the light. They use their power to think 🤔 and visualise. True leaders become an inspiration to others, so that the other can be his or her own leader. Are you a leader of your own life or are you a follower? Makes you THINK 🤔, doesn’t it!

P.S. Not all leaders are true leaders . Topic for another time ...
